The tax preparer I worked with quoted that I would owe $900+ to the state of Iowa. After reviewing the returns that were printed off for me I found that they had missed one credit on my 1040 I called to inquire about it and they found that it was indeed a 776 dollar credit! They offered to waive only my state tax filing fee and nothing else(not very congruent with their "Maximum refund guarantee"). The office manager told me they would to talk to their district manager about waiving any other fees, and that she would be back to me the next morning. After not hearing back from her the next morning I called close to noon and spoke to the manager. I had been using some free tax software to get an idea of what my Iowa return would look like. And guess what?! I turned up ANOTHER credit that they had looked over. This one for around ~$500. The manager explained to me that my case was rare and that is why it was overlooked (since I was a part year resident that worked out of state). But me a tax rookie with some free software found $1200+ in credits and somehow their tax "professionals" couldn't.
I certainly will never prepare my taxes here again and I expect a full refund for the lack of services provided. Use caution when preparing with them and if you do use them make sure you have them double check (or do it yourself with some free tax software) your forms to make sure you get your full return.
