If I could give 0 stars I would because that would be even more appropriate. The gentleman (a title he does not deserve) named Larry who is apparently the owner of this business was called out to work on a Maytag dryer as he is the service provider for them. We all know businesses are in it to make money and usually go for the cheapest option, it sure seems like they did that here because they don't use any of the excellent service providers in Sioux Falls which cost more money but instead they get this company from Iowa. Larry came out and supposedly nothing was wrong with the dryer, he said the issue was in the electrical box which granted is the older style which uses buss fuses. He decided that the problem was between the dryer fuse box and the main panel. He billed over $100 dollars to come out for a service call to give a scientifically impossible diagnosis. Let me preface this by saying I am a certified fire and explosion investigator with extensive experience in electrical fires, arc fault mapping, electromechanical.etc His determination could not have been possible for several reasons. 1. The fuse that was blowing was between the dryer fuse box and the dryer, not the main panel and the dryer fuse box. (Not possible to blow a fuse down line if the "problem" is before the fuse as that's not how a fuse works) 2. He said he saw "char" so he cleaned it. (Carbon can conduct electricity however that would result in a dead short that would blow the fuse instantly upon putting the fuse in and turning on power. His theory is also incorrect as the carbon will not magically only be conductive when a dryer pulls a load only when in high temp.) 3. He just wanted to replace a timer to possibly fix a problem with the dryer also having a problem of not shutting off on the timed setting or the moisture sensing setting. Doesn't make sense to have a good new timer on a dryer with far more serious problems resulting in blowing fuses) 4. He opened the above mentioned fuse box and: - Poked around and supposedly cleaned up "char" -Disconnected and switched around wires in the box essentially re-wiring the box. - He apparently thought the above electrical work was a good idea when he is not a licensed journeyman electrician, electrical contractor or class b contractor which is a violation of South Dakota statutes as well as the city ordinances of Sioux Falls. - On top of not even being an electrician (which he pointed out to me) he didn't obtain a proper permit to even re-wire the box which even an actual electrician would do) 5. He was rude and pretentious from the get go when I called him to question his diagnosis of the problem and explain my reasons that it was not possible. He then touted his excellency to me and that I didn't know what I was talking about to which I explained my training and experience and he was still unwilling to understand or just too stupid to listen to anyone's reasoning other than his own which is he is old and has done repair work for a long time. I told him to cancel the timer order and said we would just get a new dryer. He wasn't happy about that and ended up hanging up on me. 6. Lastly my wife called me later in the day when I was not home and said it was 79 degrees in the house and the thermostat was set at 69. A brand new Trane 3 ton heat pump (ac essentially) was just installed less than two weeks ago by Prarie Son's out of Brandon who is excellent and highly recommended by the way (and they actually followed the rules and sent an electrician to do the wiring). Now for the really weird part of this story about the ac. HE SHUT OFF THE AIR CONDITIONER BREAKER!!!!! The breaker he shut off was in another small breaker box on the OPPOSITE SIDE of the main large breaker box! From what I've seen I cannot fathom a more rude, pretentious and incompetent individual than Larry the OWNER from Landegent's Appliance Service.
